Parkersburg
is located in northwest West Virginia at the confluence of the Ohio and Little Kanawha Rivers. It is the third largest city in the state of West Virginia. The city of Parkersburg is home to Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, which is located on Blennerhassett Island, a small island in the Ohio River. The park is accessed via sternwheeler riverboat from Point Park in Parkersburg and takes about 20 minutes to reach the island. Site of the alleged plot by Aaron Burr and Harman Blennerhassett to establish a southwest empire, the park features the reconstructed Blennerhassett Mansion. There are guided tours of the mansion, a concession stand, gift shop, wagon rides, hiking trails and picnic facilities. Special events at the park include Mansion by Candlelight each October. Another major attraction in the area is the Fenton Art Glass Factory in nearby Williamstown. Tours allow visitors to watch the skilled glassmakers at work and there is also a museum and gift shop on the premises. There are many other things to see and do in Parkersburg, including shopping and dining at Grand Central Mall, visiting the Parkersburg Art Center and exploring Civil War historical spots. Enjoy outdoor recreation along the North Bend Rail Trail, which stretches 72 miles through 13 tunnels, rural countryside and several historic sites with mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, buggy rides and nature walks. Rental bikes are available.

Western West Virginia ,along the Ohio River, has a climate of four very distinct seasons. Warm summer temperatures tend to be in the 80s and cold winter temperatures tend to be in the 30s. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 95F, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 22F. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer with a difference that can reach 21 F , and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 18 F. The annual average precipitation in this region is 40.69 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. Snowfall can occur anytime from late November to March, with the most amounts falling during January and February.
