Capon-Bridge
is a small town located in Hampshire County, West Virginia along the Northwestern Turnpike, or U.S. Route 50. The town is approximately twenty miles west of Winchester, Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the population of Capon Bridge was 2,178 residents, with only 200 of which actually live within the town limits. Originally named Glencoe, Capon Bridge was incorporated in 1902. It is named for the Cacapon River, which is a name derived from the Shawnee, "Cape-cape-de-hon," meaning "river of medicine water." Capon Bridge is near several beautiful parks in Hampshire County. Central Hampshire Park is located east of Romney on Route 50 and consists of 16 acres. Facilities at the park include five picnic pavilions, an outdoor amphitheater, horseshoe pits, a basketball court and sand volleyball court, playground equipment and restrooms. Camp Walker is located off Route 50 between Shanks and Augusta on Little North Cacapon Road (Actual location Frenchburg.) Camp Walker is ten acres in size and offers 32 picnic tables and one large pavilion with attached covered stage and limited playground equipment. This lovely private setting is perfect for family reunions and other large gatherings. Capon Bridge is a beautiful semi-rural area, "providing leisure and recreational activities for people of all ages."

Northwest Virginia , near the West Virginia border, has a distinct four-season climate. Bryce Mountain is a mountain summit in Shenandoah County in the northwest portion of the state. The mountain climbs to 1,699 feet (517.86 meters) above sea level. As such, it's one of the snowiest regions of the state. Some of the heaviest snowfalls in the United States occur in the Appalachians of West Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The climate consists of moderately cold winters and comfortable cool summers. The normal average temperature is 47.6 degrees F., with summer temperatures averaging 70-80 degrees F. The average annual precipitation is 42 inches.
