Roanoke
is an unincorporated community located in Lewis County in north-central West Virginia. Most of the original town is under sixty feet of Stonewall Jackson Lake's water. A display at the Stonewall Resort State Park lodge tells the story of the unfortunate flood-plagued town. It was purchased in the 1980s by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the flood control dam at Stonewall Jackson Lake went into service in 1988. The town of Roanoke has also been known as Bush Mills, Bushs Mills, Roanville and Roanville Station. A state park lies along the shores of Stonewall Jackson Lake, as does a beautiful, exclusive resort that covers 2,000 acres and offers abundant recreational and spa activities. Three restaurants are located at the lake, a marina with boat launch and rentals, a 125 passenger cruise boat and 3 rental houseboats and an 18-hole Arnold Palmer golf course. Just some of the other activities to enjoy include swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, camping and more. Over 82 miles of pristine shoreline offer incredible views of wildlife and forest. A full service spa is also available at the resort on the lake. The Stonewall Jackson Resort at Roanoke is located about ten miles south of Weston and three miles off the Roanoke Exit (Exit 91) off Interstate 79.

Northern West Virginia has a four-season climate classified as humid continental. July is the average warmest month, with an average high temperature of 85. The average coolest month is January with an average low temperature of 21. Snowfall can occur anytime from late November to mid-April, with the most amounts falling during January and February. However, it is rare for a major snowstorm to hit this area. Rainfall is spread out fairly evenly over the entire year. Thunderstorms are frequent during the late spring and throughout the summer, and occasionally can be quite violent. Tornadoes are very rare in the state of West Virginia. The driest period tends to be during the autumn months of September and October. Spring is the most unpredictable season. It's not unusual in the springtime for a warm, sunny day to be followed immediately by a chilly, rainy day.
