Jumping-Branch
is a small village in Summers County in southeastern West Virginia. The community is situated near the center of a region of tableland farms, approximately five miles west of the town of Hinton. It is also about twenty miles south of Beckley, West Virginia. Due to Jumping Branch's scenic locale, it's become a desirable area for second homes. A portion of the Giles-Fayette and Kanawha Turnpike run through the town. The region surrounding Jumping Branch is an outdoor lovers dream. Nearby attractions include Pipestem State Park, Bluestone State Park and the New River Gorge National River and Park. Activities to choose from include hiking and mountain biking, whitewater rafting to world class fishing and rock climbing. One of the area's major draws is the spectacular New River Gorge Bridge. At 3,030 feet in length and a height of 876 feet, it's the highest vehicular bridge in the Americas, and the second-highest in the world. The bridge is the site of "Bridge Day Festival" during which it's closed to vehicular traffic. The festival includes demonstrations of rappelling, ascending and BASE jumping. Nearby Hinton offers shopping, dining and several museums including Wood's Clock Museum, the Hinton Railroad Museum, and Kings Civil War Museum.

South Central West Virginia is dominated by a humid continental climate, due to its geographical location in the higher elevations. Summers are very warm and humid and winters are cold and snowy. The humid continental climate is marked by variable weather patterns and a large seasonal temperature variance. Summers are often warm and humid with frequent thunderstorms and winters can be very cold with frequent snowfall and persistent snow cover. The seasonal temperature variance is typically 25-35C (45-63F) and increases as one moves further inland. Places with at least four months of average daily temperatures above 10 C (50 F) and at least one month below 0 C (32 F) or -3 C (26.6 F) depending on source, and which do not meet the criteria for an arid or semiarid climate, are classified as humid continental.
